The Complete Player (TCP) Charity, based in Prince George’s County, MD, is “Opening Academic and Baseball Doors” in our community. Started by Prince George’s County native and former 16th Rd Draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles Andy Schindling, their mission is to developing athletes on-the-field, in the classroom, and in life to prepare athletes for successful futures and college degrees. Andy started The Complete Player to give youth players in our community the same opportunities he had growing up, playing in an organization that provided high quality coaching at every age level and who took great pride in the development of their players and preparing them for the next level. Without this baseball foundation Andy would have never received a free college education nor have seen his baseball dreams come to life.
In our efforts to develop players on-the-field, TCP is the home of six youth teams ranging from t-ball to high school level players and is eagerly looking to add three more teams, 8U, 10U and 13U, in 2017. The Complete Player takes great pride in developing players and preparing them to succeed at the next level. Players and parents can expect that players will be taught the proper fundamentals and baseball knowledge needed for play ers to succeed at the high school and college levels. To develop players off-the-field TCP’s Five Tools for Life Mentoring program will begin this fall, Oct 2016. The program is designed to teach athletes the importance of leadership, stewardship, ownership, and service to develop leadership skills, academic responsibility, health & wellness education, social awareness, and family values. We believe all of these skills are vital to the growth and success of players in the “real world” or life outside of sport.
The Complete Player also offers Scholastic Scholarships to help players develop in the classroom. Scholarships are awarded to help athletes afford the cost of tutoring, necessary school sup-plies, and the cost of tuition at local private schools. Scholarships are awarded on a year to year basis and are eligible for youth baseball players ages 8-18. Currently, The Complete Player is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals with a background in baseball and/or coaching to serve as coaches. We are anticipating on start-ing four new teams for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 at the t-ball, 10U, 12U, and 13U ages. Tryouts for TCP teams will be held on August 13th. The Complete Player is also seeking four adult males who have a strong desire and passion in developing boys into men to serve as mentors in our Mentoring program. Mentors will be expected to commit one hour, twice a month for nine months. Our program will run from Oct 2016-June 2017.
